Dedicated to improving people's lives by sharing advances in health and learning with the global community. The foundation's Global Health Program is focused on reducing global health inequities by accelerating the development, deployment and sustainability of health interventions that will save lives and dramatically reduce the disease burden in developing countries.

Delivers emergency aid to victims of armed conflict, epidemics, and natural and man-made disasters, and to others who lack health care due to social or geographical isolation. Their HIV/AIDS projects include HIV prevention and general health education, condom distribution, management of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), harm reduction programs, mother-to-child-transmission prevention programs.

The Global Fund was created to increase resources to fight three of the world's most devastating diseases, and to direct those resources to areas of greatest need

Seeks to promote better health around the world by assisting all who work for improvement and equity in global health to secure the information and resources they need to work effectively.

The database provides information on HIV/AIDS indicators derived from sample surveys and allows the user to produce tables for specific countries by select background characteristics. The indicators included are derived from the UNAIDS National AIDS Programmes: Guide to Monitoring and Evaluation.

Focuses on the economics of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, providing data, tools, and analysis for researchers and policymakers working to define and implement compassionate, effective AIDS policy.

Established to create strategic opportunities for galvanizing leadership, mobilizing resources, and promoting effective interventions in the global battle against AIDS.

Global organization working to speed the development and distribution of preventive AIDS vaccines. Includes the IAVI Database of AIDS Vaccines in Human Trials and recent news of vaccine development.

Program area focuses on the following: How the stigma of HIV/AIDS increases infection and reduces the use of programs for prevention, treatment, and care; how to empower adolescents to protect themselves from HIV infection; and how to improve access to prevention methods that women can control.

A global network of non-governmental and community-based organizations that seeks to mobilize communities and their organizations to participate in the response to HIV/AIDS; articulate and advocate the needs and concerns of communities and their organizations; and ensure that community-based organizations, particularly those with fewer resources and within affected communities, are strengthened in their work to prevent HIV infection, and to provide treatment, care and support for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

UNAIDS' mission is to lead, strengthen, and support an expanded response aimed at preventing the transmission of HIV, providing care and support, reducing the vulnerability of individuals and communities to HIV/AIDS, and alleviating the impact of the epidemic. It is governed by a coordinating board comprising eight United Nations organizational cosponsors, representatives from 22 governments, and five nongovernmental organizations. Priority areas are prevention among young people, prevention of mother-to-child transmission, care and support for orphans and children in families affected HIV/AIDS, and care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Focuses on ensuring that young people know how to avoid infection and have access to services; helping pregnant women protect against infection; and ensuring that condoms are readily available and are used consistently and correctly.

Provides multiple resources on the HIV/AIDS epidemic, including news releases, publications, video clips and more.

The United Nations General Assembly held a special session on HIV/AIDS at the highest political level from 25 to 27 June 2001, which aimed to intensify international action to fight the epidemic and to mobilize the resources needed.
