"Former Presidents Nelson Mandela and Bill Clinton Visit loveLife Youth Center" 9/28/2002
Johannesburg, South Africa
Former South African president Nelson Mandela and former U.S. president Bill Clinton visit loveLife facilities in Orange Farm, just outside of Johannesburg. Clinton and Mandela discuss loveLife, the largest youth HIV prevention program in the world, and the need for HIV prevention among young people worldwide. In addition, they hear from young people involved in the loveLife program and conduct a question and answer session.
South African Minister of Social Development, Zola Skewiya, Drew Altman, president, Kaiser Family Foundation; Prof. Charles Ogletree, Kaiser Family Foundation trustee; and Zinzi Mandela-Hlongwane, member of loveLife National Advisory Board also provide remarks.
This event also includes an announcement of a new funding partnership between the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Foundation in support of loveLife's groundBREAKER program. GroundBREAKERS are volunteers between the ages of 18-25 that commit to working for loveLife for one year. During this year they also participate in a structured curriculum of personal skills development designed to make them better qualified for formal employment at the end of their year with loveLife.
