Advanced Search Options


User's Guide

Advanced Search Options allow you to search the actual question text of all questions in the database for the exact words you enter in the "Search for" box.

  1. Keyword Search

    • Enter words and phrases using Boolean logic and parentheses.
      Examples
      Medicare and prescription
      patients and rights

    • Use special characters for more powerful search features.
      Examples
      test% (will search for test, tests, testing, etc.)
      reform% (will search for reform, reformed, reforms, etc.)

    • Enter all words that might have been used in a question related to that topic.
      Example
      AIDS or HIV and vaccin% or innoculat% or shot

    • Do not use punctuation marks.
    • Criteria is required in this field.

  2. Topic
    • Pull-down menu of topics that have been used to categorize each questions.
    • Select all topics (default selection) or a single topic.

  3. Organization
    • Pull-down menu of survey organizations currently represented in the Health Poll Search database
    • Select all organizations (default selection) or a single organization

  4. Date Range
    • Refers to first date of the interview period
    • Must use 4-digit year
    • Data currently in the system from 1935 through 2001
