The Kaiser/HRET Annual Employer Health Benefits Survey
The Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research and Educational Trust have conducted this annual survey since 1999. The survey, which is traditionally released each Fall, tracks trends in employer health insurance coverage, the cost of that coverage, and other topical health insurance issues.

"Kaiser/HRET Survey: 2002 State Employee Health Plans"
State employee health plans provided coverage for 3.4 million state government employees in 2002. The Kaiser/HRET Survey: 2002 State Employee Health Plans finds that premiums for state employee health plans increased 12.8% in 2002, similar to national averages. It also finds that state employee plan premiums are slightly more expensive than the national average and that state workers’ contributions are less expensive than the average U.S. firm. The Kaiser/HRET Survey: 2002 State Employee Health Plans is a supplement to the annual Kaiser/HRET Employer Health Benefits Survey, and offers an overview of health insurance practices among state employee plans and U.S. firms.

Kaiser Family Foundation: The New Middle-Class of Uninsured Americans -- Is it Real?
This issue paper discusses and answers the question are the newly uninsured in 2001 predominantly from the middle-class. The paper examines U.S. Census Bureau’s data and concludes that most of the increase in the uninsured (1.3 million people) was among low-income people with incomes less than 200% of the poverty level.

Kaiser Family Foundation: The Current State of Retiree Health Benefits: Findings from the Kaiser/Hewitt 2002 Retiree Health Survey
This report presents findings from a study of large private-sector employers conducted by researchers at Hewitt Associates and the Kaiser Family Foundation between July and September of 2002. The study is based on survey responses of 435 large private-sector firms (1,000+ employees) that currently offer retiree health benefits, and includes 36% of all Fortune 100 companies and 28% of all Fortune 500 companies.

Based on a Commonwealth Fund survey of health insurance in the workplace, this issue brief finds that two of five workers experienced increases in their premiums or cost-sharing, or both, during 2001. Although public support for job-based health insurance remains strong, many workers are not confident that employers will continue to offer coverage to them down the road.

Survey finds that two-thirds of small employers say that they are dissatisfied with the cost of health care and health insurance, and about one-third of small businesses that now offer insurance say they are likely to increase the share of costs borne by employees in the next year.
