This panel presents the evidence for investing in health to implement Agenda 21 and meet the Millennium Development Goals, reduce poverty, and improve health outcomes. Action strategies to invest in health, both within and outside the health sector are highlighted. Dr. David Nabarro, Executive Director, Sustainable Development and Healthy Environments, World Health Organization, moderates.

Amoako, Commissioner, WHO Commission on Macroeconomics and Health; Dr. Andrew Cassels, Director, Strategy Unit, World Health Organization; David Sanders, Director of the School of Public Health, University of the Western Cape, South Africa; Robert Hecht, Senior Adviser to the Vice-President for Human Development, World Bank; Dr. Marika Fahlen, Director, Department of Social Mobilization and Information, UNAIDS. Dr. Julio Frenk, Minister of Health, Mexico, responds from the policy perspective.

Panel 4: Intersectoral Action in Practice: Programmatic Examples of Health and Sustainable Development Play Video ( video )

Building on research, advocacy and economic rationale, this panel will highlight programmatic evidence of the effectiveness of intersectoral action to improve health and reduce poverty. Dr. Anne Peterson, Assistant Administrator for Global Health, USAID, offers opening remarks and moderates.
