The Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved, produced by Meharry Medical College, released a special issue on the Public Health Implications of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma. Many of the scholars who contributed to the issue work in Louisiana and Gulf Coast health institutions. The president of Meharry, Wayne Riley, M.D., M.P.H., wrote an opening commentary called "Hurricanes Katrina and Rita: Professionally Fulfilling, Personally Painful." Riley was interviewed by the Kaiser Family Foundation's Jackie Judd
