Kaisernetwork.org and Alliance for Health Reform Partnership

Kaisernetwork.org and the Alliance for Health Reform - both committed to the widespread dissemination of health policy information to policymakers, media and the health policy community - have partnered to webcast all of the Alliance for Health Reform's 2001 Capitol Hill Briefings.

A non-partisan, non-profit group, the Alliance for Health Reform pursues tandem goals of extending health coverage to all Americans and containing health care costs, while not advocating any particular blueprint for changing American health care.

Since 1991, the Alliance has organized scores of forums in Washington, presenting a wide range of expert views to legislative staff, journalists, policy analysts and advocates.

During 2001, the Alliance will put together approximately two-dozen events designed to help congressional staff and media stay abreast of health policy issues.

Some prospective briefing topics for 2001 include:

  • Progress in improving health coverage for low-income children.
  • Alternative approaches to expanding health coverage (e.g. public programs, tax credits, or combination approaches).
  • Ongoing prescription drug/Medicare benefit debate.
  • Introductions to Medicaid, Medicare and health insurance in general.
This partnership with kaisernetwork.org will enable Members of Congress, congressional staff and district offices as well as journalists and the health care community across the country to view live or archived webcasts of Alliance for Health Reform briefings.

Kaisernetwork.org will also provide any additional background information distributed at each Alliance for Health Reform briefing online including: biographical information on the participants, policy briefs and fact sheets, presentations used by participants, lists of reference materials and links to other relevant websites.

The Alliance for Health Reform is committed to the education of journalists, elected officials and shapers of public opinion, helping them understand the causes of the nation's health care problems and the tradeoffs posed by various proposals for change.

Senator Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, a national leader in health policy, chairs the Alliance's board of directors and Senator Bill Frist of Tennessee, a key policymaker and a heart and lung transplant surgeon, serves as the vice chairman. The diverse board includes distinguished leaders from the fields of medicine, labor, consumer advocacy and public interest. Ed Howard, an attorney long active in national health care issues, heads the Alliance's staff.

The mission of the Kaiser Family Foundation is to provide timely, reliable, and non-partisan information on national health issues to policymakers, the media, and the general public.

To advance that mission, the Kaiser Family Foundation has established kaisernetwork.org, which offers free access to critical health policy information. Site features include: HealthCast, daily news summary reports, a national health policy calendar, AdWatch, and the newly launched feature, Health Poll Search, a free, searchable database of public opinion results dating back to 1935.
