Initiatives | UnitedHealth Group, Rainbow/PUSH Coalition Partner to Improve Minority Health
[Jun 11, 2007]

UnitedHealth Group and the Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH Coalition on Friday announced a collaboration to promote better health among blacks and other minorities, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reports.

The groups will work together to develop solutions to address health issues that are prominent in minority communities, such as diabetes, cancer, coronary disease, asthma and obesity. Under the partnership, UnitedHealth will provide the health care tools, technology and educational materials to better inform minorities of the health issues in their communities (DeYoung, Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, 6/8).

The Rainbow/PUSH Coalition will make those resources available to its network of churches, community organizations and leaders (United Press International, 6/8). Reed Tuckson, executive vice president and chief of medical affairs at UnitedHealth, said, "This alliance is a powerful way to support African-Americans in making informed health care decisions and overcoming the health challenges they face."

Jackson added that his organization is "grateful for UnitedHealth Group's recognition and support for the unique role that black churches and community organizations play in improving the quality of life and health" in the U.S. (Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, 6/8).
