Kaiser Medicare Q&A Column, Kaiser Family Foundation/Knight Ridder/Tribune News: This week's column, prepared by the Kaiser Family Foundation and distributed by Knight Ridder/Tribune, answers a question about whether a Medicare drug plan can stop covering medications. According to the column, Medicare plans previously were allowed to make changes to their drug formularies at any point in the year if they also provided notice to beneficiaries enrolled in the plan. However, the Bush administration recently implemented changes that prohibit drug plans from dropping medications that beneficiaries are taking unless the drug is found to be unsafe or if the plan covers a generic equivalent (Kaiser Medicare Q&A column, 5/11).
