Global Challenges | OPEC to Donate $8.1 Million to 12 African Nations for HIV/AIDS Efforts

      The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries will give $8.1 million to 12 African nations to fight HIV/AIDS, Xinhua News Agency reports. The money will be awarded to World Health Organization projects in Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Togo, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia (Xinhua News Agency, 7/3). The money will come from the HIV/AIDS account of OPEC's International Fund for Development (Wendo, Kampala New Vision/AllAfrica.com, 7/3). The fund supports HIV prevention projects and efforts that "increas[e] support and care to people living with HIV/AIDS" (Xinhua News Agency, 7/3).
