Recent Releases in Health Policy | NEJM Article Examines Voters' Views on Health Care
[Oct 31, 2008]

"Voters and Health Reform in the 2008 Presidential Election," New England Journal of Medicine: The article, the second in a series of two on the presidential election and health care, examines the public's perceptions of the health care system, the role of health care in the election and how voters' opinions differ based on who they intend to vote for. The article -- written by Robert Blendon, Harvard Medical School professor of public health and political analysis; Kaiser Family Foundation President and CEO Drew Altman; and five other authors -- notes that seven in 10 registered voters believe major changes are needed in the U.S. health system. The article is based on a Kaiser/Harvard survey of registered voters in September, as well as other surveys this year and historical election exit polls (Blendon et al., NEJM, 10/30).
