Daily Conference Updated

Thursday, July 15, 2004-- At an evening musical event hosted by former South African President Nelson Mandela, a $50 million pledge was announced from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Mandela called for others to do the same. "It is going to take much more than the resources of the Gates Foundation to achieve the scale-up required to fund the fight against AIDS, TB and Malaria," he said. "We need to build the public-private partnership that is the vision of the Global Fund. We challenge everyone to help fund the Fund now."
