DR. ABDUL: (MS?) -- HIV/AIDS. Mr. secretary.
[applause]
COLLECTIVE PROTESTORS: [chanting, whistling and yelling]. Shame, shame, shame!
TOMMY THOMPSON: Thank you, Dr. Abdul. Thank you for that kind introduction. My country appreciates the leadership [inaudible section due to protestors chanting, whistling and yelling.]
COLLECTIVE PROTESTORS: [chanting, whistling and inaudible yelling] Shame! Shame! [continuous chanting for three minutes]. [chanting] Money for AIDS, not for war, (MS?).
PROTESTOR: (MS?) –- millions of people with AIDS around the world, the U.S. has refused to give its fair share to the global fund, giving only $200 million instead of the $2 billion that is needed. The U.S. has worked consistently to prevent the production and importation of generic medication to poor nations around the world.
COLLECTIVE PROTESTORS: [continuous chanting] Shame! Shame!
PROTESTOR: -- funded AIDS programs would provide life-saving medication to people in the U.S. Shame! U.S. recently (MS?) the money that was intended for treatment on people with AIDS around the world and mandated only for mothers of child transmission. No treatment for adults with HIV.
COLLECTIVE PROTESTORS: Shame!
PROTESTOR: We call on the U.S. to join with activists and the W.H.O. in calling for at least treatment for at least 3 million people by 2005.
COLLECTIVE PROTESTORS: [whistling, cheering and inaudible chanting and yelling].
